About Bancroft, ON
"Ontario's Most Talented Town"
"A four Seasons Playground"
The picturesque community of Bancroft, situated on the Canadian Shield, is strategically located 3 hours west of Ottawa, 1 hour north of Belleville, and 1 hour northeast of Peterborough. The area offers year round activities such as live theatre at the Village Playhouse, art exhibits at the Art Gallery, the Annual Rock Hound Gemboree and local rock hounding, cottaging, camping and fishing on our pristine lakes, snowmobiling on the best trails in Eastern Ontario, four wheeling on the Hastings Heritage Trail, great hiking and nature walk trails. After a day of bird watching from the “Hawks Watch” located atop the “Eagle’s Nest,” relax outdoors as you enjoy live entertainment at the Millennium Band Shell.
Autumn is spectacular as the foliage turns gold and red. Enjoy a hike at Egan Chutes Provincial Park or take a day trip to Algonquin Provincial Park, to experience the array of fall colour. For hunting enthusiasts, the Bancroft area offers game from partridge to deer and moose. In 2000, elk were re-introduced to the area and viewing and marketing initiatives are being established.
The York River flows through the centre of town and is being developed with park areas, playgrounds and trails. The shopping area consists of numerous boutiques offering unique gifts and crafts. Bancroft has so much to offer, yet maintains a quiet, relaxing pace.
In June 2004, Bancroft was the first place winner in TV Ontario’s Studio 2, Most Talented Town contest. Bancroft generates its own arts scene and the arts community is a self-nurturing grassroots movement.
Come and experience Bancroft, truly “A Place for All Seasons.”
